Australia Striving to Lessen the Gender Pay Gap

The gender pay gap in Australia is still a concern despite continued attempts to resolve it. The People at Work 2023: A Global Workforce View report from the ADP Research Institute provides insight into the ongoing salary gaps between men and women in Australia. The results of the poll highlight how urgent it is to address this imbalance and promote a more egalitarian workplace.

The survey, which received answers from more than 1,400 Australian workers, reveals a depressing truth: women's salaries have not grown as quickly as those of their male colleagues.

Men in Australia enjoyed an average wage increase of 5.7% over the last year, but women saw a noticeably lower average increase of 4.4%. The outlook for the following year is even more worrisome, with males anticipating an average salary increase of 6.3% compared to women's more moderate estimate of just 5.2%. These numbers highlight how the gender wage gap still exists and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. The gender pay gap is an indicator of how far women’s empowerment has come and a wider gap suggests that a lot needs to be done to achieve a state of true equity.
