Imperial College London, Forging Ahead with Scientific Knowledge

Education is the foundation, upon which successful countries are built. Countries with progressive outlook on education usually fare better economically. The UK, one of the premier countries in the world has been a sought-after educational destination, owing to its many colleges and universities that have been around for decades. One such institution is Imperial College London (Imperial).

Currently a public research university in London, England, Imperial is segregated under four distinct faculties, engineering, medicine, natural sciences and business. The institution is known to build future leaders for today’s modern world.

Imperial as an institution has moved with the times, but its origins date back to the 19th century. Prince Alber, Queen Victoria’s husband envisioned creating a specific area that could become the cultural hub for UK. IN 1907, the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds of London Institute were brought under an umbrella, thus establishing the Imperial College of Science and Technology.

One such name is Kerstin Papenfuss, Director Pharma at Deep Science Ventures. With over a decade of experience in oncology, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical markets, she plays a key role in shaping ventures that deliver novel therapeutics for unmet medical needs. Joining these women is Hannah Clegg, Partner, Sayers Butterworth. She began her career with a top 40 accountancy firm, gaining a solid foundation in the industry. Her journey continued at a top 20 firm, enhancing her technical skills. Passionate about client understanding and team development, she now focuses on audit compliance and nurturing the next generation of accountants.

“While transitioning to a career in finance may seem unconventional, the skills I honed at Imperial, such as analyzing data and assessing its strengths and weaknesses, are invaluable in my current role as a Chartered Accountant,” says Hannah.
