The West African country of Cameroon is undergoing testing times. It is currently caught in the midst of turmoil owing to political challenges which has caused massive displacement in the country’s key regions.
However, the West African country has created a rather conducive political, economic, and social environment for gender equality and women's empowerment. The country currently is on a road to empower its women and has been seeing their increased representation in business and political spheres.
In a conversation with team Global Woman Leaders, Rose Egbe Mbi Rose Ojong, MD, Background Check International Cameroon/ Francophone Africa shared an optimistic outlook on women’ growth in Cameroon’s future. Rose Egbe Mbi Rose Ojong, is a visionary and resilient leader known for her exceptional expertise in finance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
She says, “The business landscape in Cameroon is poised for significant developments by 2025… One a positive note, companies in Cameroon increasingly recognize the value of women in leadership roles. Women are taking on significant positions within organizations, bringing fresh perspectives, driving innovation, and delivering measurable results.”
A similar sentiment is echoed by Sorelle Fonssouo Mogo, Partner at Jing & Partners. Sorelle she specializes in project financing, corporate restructuring, and dispute prevention. With extensive experience in major Cameroonian projects, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the country’s legal landscape.
In a conversation with team GWL, Sorelle says, “As for the role of women, who were once confined to secondary roles, their skills are now being increasingly recognized, and I am a testament to this progress. In Cameroon, many women are now serving as lawyers, judges, ministers, CEOs, and in other leadership positions. Although the representation of women in key roles is still relatively low, it is important to recognize the significant strides that have been made.”
In another insightful conversation with Etonde Martin Ndoping, Founder & CEO, Sheraiz Delightz, she talks about the country’s impending economic growth and the role women are playing in Cameroon’s business world. Etonde is a visionary entrepreneur and leader in Cameroon’s event management industry. She has pioneered the local event planning sector, introducing innovative solutions for both corporate and special events.
She says, “Cameroon's business landscape is rapidly growing, with many women leading the way, heading multinational corporations, and running their own businesses. Women are not only prominent in business but also hold key positions in government, including ministerial roles.”
