Take us through your growth journey as a recruitment professional. Enumerate the work experience that you have gathered in the industry so far.
My journey in recruitment spans eight years, marked by diverse experiences and specialization in the IT industry. Despite starting in 2016 without any Japanese language fluency, IT background, or recruitment knowledge, I persevered, securing placements and obtaining accelerated promotions based on my commitment. Initially challenging, transitioning into recruitment demanded self-directed learning, with no formal training available, let alone the unique challenges of a female Asian recruiter in a male caucasian-dominated industry. Over time, I honed my skills, drawing knowledge from candidates and clients alike, the progress involved rigorous self-education, extensive repetition, and immersion in IT terminology. Despite the hurdles, dedication, and effort led to professional growth and success.

Throw some light on the major challenges you encounter as a recruitment leader in today's business climate. How do you overcome the said roadblocks?
Navigating Japan's competitive recruitment industry poses significant challenges for business leaders, particularly in fostering team cohesion and minimizing turnover. Retaining talent and ensuring team satisfaction amidst intense external competition is paramount. To address this, strategic hiring focuses on selecting individuals who prioritize teamwork and collaboration over individual achievement. By recruiting diverse talents from various cultural backgrounds, we foster a balanced and inclusive environment. Emphasizing team unity and shared goals during onboarding reinforces cohesion. Our approach emphasizes hiring individuals who not only possess the necessary skills but also contribute positively to team dynamics, fostering stability and resilience in the face of industry challenges.

How do you foresee women's representation in Japan's business landscape evolving? What steps must be taken to strengthen women's representation in top leadership roles?
In Japan, female representation in leadership remains scarce, reflecting a significant gender gap. However, shifts are perceptible. Initiating from global firms prioritizing diversity, and encouraging female leadership for enhanced team dynamics and performance, over time, this ethos may permeate Japanese companies, recognizing diversity's value in driving innovation and improvement. Yet, substantial progress is requisite. Measures like equal pay, targeted leadership programs, and cultural shifts fostering inclusivity are pivotal. While progress may be gradual, sustained efforts are essential for substantial change in Japan's business landscape.
A business leader you admire & why
I deeply admire Diana Nyad, a trailblazing figure whose remarkable achievement exemplifies the power of resilience and determination. At 64 years old, she defied all odds by swimming 110 miles from Cuba to Florida, a feat no one had ever accomplished before. Nyad's relentless pursuit of her goal serves as a powerful reminder that age and obstacles should never deter one from pursuing their dreams.
Message for aspiring women leaders/ entrepreneurs
For aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs, as rightly said by Nyad- find a way to do what you want to do and to become who you dream. Moreover, the importance of earning respect through actions rather than demanding it is a vital lesson for navigating the often challenging terrain of leadership, particularly for women.
