Could you please tell me about your educational background and the industry experience you bring to the table?
I completed my undergraduate studies at Central South University. Following that, I pursued a Master’s degree in philosophy at Tongji University. Before founding TMTPost Group in late 2012, I gained recognition as a top investigative journalist in China. In 2011, I had the opportunity to be a visiting scholar at Columbia University. Currently, I serve as the CEO and Chairperson of TMTPost Group, overseeing approximately 200 full-time employees. Additionally, I am honored to be a Member of the Advisory Board of Columbia University’s Global Centers.

In my perspective, leadership transcends mere expertise or knowledge, which are generally possessed by educated individuals. What truly distinguishes effective leadership in media and entertainment are core values and a profound industry understanding. At TMTPost, we uphold principles such as 'Adhere to Professionalism, Respect Technology, and Have a Global Impact,' which guide our operations and strategic decisions.
Understanding the nuances of the media industry and the specific needs of our clients is crucial. Media is fundamentally about delivering valuable content that resonates deeply with our audience. It involves providing optimal value through compelling content, critical information, and accurate data. However, in today's technologically reshaped landscape, algorithms often create information cocoons by tailoring content recommendations to users' existing preferences. I am committed to diversifying our content offerings to challenge these cocoons and provide users with a broader spectrum of perspectives.
Additionally, effective leadership in media necessitates a relentless pursuit of innovation in technologies and products. For instance, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models, has become pivotal in our industry's evolution. A leader must stay attuned to technological advancements and comprehend their profound impact on media dynamics beyond mere content creation and dissemination.
Another indispensable trait of a leader is tolerance. In an industry characterized by an explosion of information and diverse opinions, fostering inclusivity is paramount. I value the diverse viewpoints of our users and employees alike, recognizing that tolerance and open-mindedness are essential for navigating differing perspectives within the organization.

What inspired the creation of TMTPost Group? Please share the foundational concept behind launching the venture and its primary areas of expertise.
During my time as a reporter for Caijing Magazine, I witnessed firsthand the aftermath of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan province, a catastrophic event in China's history. It was during this experience that I encountered children in remote mountain villages who lacked access to the internet. This stark information gap between rural communities and urban centers compelled me to take action. I resolved to establish a company aimed at bridging this divide and disseminating valuable information and knowledge.
What are your primary responsibilities as CEO of TMTPost Group? What specific areas do you prioritize to drive the company's growth?
As CEO, my primary focus lies in steering the strategic development of TMTPost Group. Charting the course for the company's future direction is paramount. Additionally, I am dedicated to fostering innovation within our products and refining our business models to effectively meet market demands. Another critical aspect of my role involves cultivating TMTPost Group's corporate culture and overseeing initiatives for talent acquisition and retention. Central to our company ethos is a culture characterized by kindness and equality, which I believe fosters a conducive environment for sustainable growth.
A business leader encounters numerous challenges throughout their journey. Could you shed light on the significant challenges you face in your current role and how you navigate these obstacles?
From my perspective, addressing challenges is at the core of entrepreneurship. Every year presents its unique set of obstacles, with no challenge being too small. The next challenge could always prove to be the most formidable. TMTPost Group wouldn't have thrived over the years without overcoming these hurdles. I've tackled a variety of challenges as a business leader, including intense competition, global relations involving China, shifts in user behaviors, and technological advancements, among others. Since TMTPost Group's inception in 2012, I've been continuously engaged in overcoming these challenges.
Firstly, it's crucial not to evade challenges but to confront them head-on. Many people shy away from challenges due to intimidation, potentially leading to avoidance or even abandonment. Embracing challenges is essential to fulfilling one's mission. Recognizing and addressing challenges are fundamental. In China, there's a saying, 'Don't hide an illness just because you fear the treatment.' Acknowledging issues creates pressure, but avoiding them doesn't alleviate the stress on one's mind and body.
Secondly, thorough and extensive research is key to understanding the root causes of problems.
Thirdly, tackling challenges as a team is vital. In today's intricate landscape, no one can navigate challenges alone. Mobilizing and leading a team effectively is integral to overcoming obstacles.
In your view, what have been the most significant achievements in your professional journey thus far? What philosophy has guided your success over the years?
I don't believe in labeling achievements as 'big wins.' Rather, I find happiness in moments of fulfillment. It brings me joy when my team members experience satisfaction and happiness at work. Equally fulfilling is nurturing strong family bonds while contributing to TMTPost. Building a close relationship with my child, ensuring her joyful upbringing and academic enjoyment, has been particularly rewarding for me.
My guiding philosophy throughout my career has been encapsulated in the mantra, 'Face a Complex World With the Purity and Simplicity of a Glass of Water.’
