President Tsai Ing-wen gave a speech at the 2023 Empower Women! Empower LAC! Forum's launch was held on 15 February 2023. President Tsai expressed her views on this Forum launch where she said it will make us understand about the current economic climate is supporting women's economic empowerment and also the post-pandemic revitalization and recovery worldwide.
President Tsai further said that they never held any such Forum earlier in Taiwan, and she is really happy to see the participants attending. The participants who are present have a determination towards promoting gender equality and women's rights. Taiwan is the first nation in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage in 2019 after overcoming so many challenges.
She noted that the percentage of female legislators is more than 40% in Taiwan, one of the highest in Asia.
About 37% of Women in Taiwan have indulged in small and medium-sized businesses and become the backbone of Taiwanese society in various fields.
Taiwan actively promotes gender equality and those countries cooperate with these norms. Taiwan collaboratively with many countries has sponsored interdisciplinary seminars on important gender issues under Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF).
The President said they actively support women's ambitions and their dream of becoming entrepreneurs. They provide resources and tools to nurture them. Initiatives such as improvement in the working atmosphere have been taken to make women safe, confident, and empowered.
President of Paraguay Mario Abdo and First Lady Silvana Abdo, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children Rossana Briceno and Belizean First Lady, Grenadines Minister of Foreign Affairs and Saint Vincent, Regional Integration and the Diaspora Keisal Melissa Peters, Foreign Trade, and members of the Foreign diplomatic corps in Taiwan, everyone marked their presence in the Forum.
