"One Billion Rising 2023" initiative taken in Cambodia for Women's Empowerment

According to the Phnom Penh Post,the EU, Heinrich Boll Stiftung, Save the Children, Diskonia, Sverige, and Norwegian People's Aidsupported the women's empowering initiative "One Billion Rising (OBR) 2023" in Cambodia.

The Cambodian Youth Network (CYN), Phare Ponleu Selpak, the UN Youth Advisory Panel Cambodia, Gender and Development for Cambodia, Transparency International Cambodia, SafeSpaceBtB, and the Women for Peace Makers were the co-organizers of this initiative.

"Rise for the Freedom of Girls and Women of all Backgrounds" was the slogan of this initiative. This slogan states about encouraging the rights, freedom, and self-expression that are provided to girls and women belonging to all backgrounds. Liberation from patriarchy created by the abuse of greed and power is also a motto of this initiative.

Keo Yary, Project Coordinator at CYN was the organizer of this initiative which is joined by almost 304 participants from civil society organizations and youth groups. Keo mentioned the interest taken by the individuals in this initiative and she is looking forward to more participation in the future as this initiative is the best way to create awareness of the rights which girls and women in society deserve.

This program gives people a chance to understand each other better despite of whether they belong to any caste, creed, gender, or age group.
