The Dubai Women Establishment's (DWE) 'Women on International Boards' initiative, which begins on May 30 in London, will feature up to 20 Emirati women who are pioneers in their areas in the UAE's public and commercial sectors. The event will continue till June 5.
The event is sponsored by Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court, and President of the UAE Gender Balance Council and President of the Dubai Women Establishment.
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has particularly tailored the curriculum using training materials selected by "leaders with global experiences" in collaboration with DWE. There are 20 participants in the initiative, which targets female leaders in the UAE's different semi-government and commercial sectors. It tries to emphasise the value of gaining from pragmatic management solutions and the value of learning from peers.
The project focuses on highlighting the crucial role of women as members of boards of directors in various local and international organisations. It is in line with the framework to strengthen the role of women in creating the economic and social future of Dubai. The program's other objectives include enhancing women's professional and leadership capacities and equipping participating Emirati women with high-level professional and administrative talents as well as practical leadership skills.
Participants
Participants in the programme come from a range of governmental and semi-governmental organisations as well as the private sector, including: the Prime Minister's Office, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs - Dubai, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Dubai Financial Audit Authority, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Dubai Future Foundation, the Government of Dubai Media Office, and the Dubai Media Centre.
Leading generation
According to Naeema Ahli, Director of Corporate Support and Interim CEO of the Dubai Women Establishment, the UAE government is eager to provide Emirati women the abilities they need to handle strategic problems and be influential in regional and international organisations. The UAE has made significant progress towards increasing the representation of women in positions of decision-making, according to Sultana Saif, Director of the Women Development Department at DWE. The UAE is also the first nation in the region to pass legally binding legislation requiring women's representation on the boards of governmental institutions.
Institute of Directors
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has had three guiding principles since its founding in 1903: professional growth, worthwhile contacts, and significant impact. The program's faculty members are skilled executives and directors who come from a variety of professional backgrounds and business experiences. David Joel, Deborah Benson, Murray Eldridge, and Sheelagh Duffield are the instructors for the Women on International Boards course.
7 Modules
Corporate Governance, Leadership for Directors, Strategy for Directors, The Effective Board, Risk Governance, Finance for Non-Finance Directors, and Role of the Director and the Board are just a few of the seven key topics that are covered in this training for directors and senior governance professionals. In the first module, "Corporate Governance," the goal, development, and significance of corporate governance are discussed from a worldwide perspective. To realise an organization's goal, the second module, "Leadership for Directors," emphasises the significance of good leadership. "Strategy for Directors," the third module, examines the connections between strategy, governance, and risk.
The program's fourth module, "The Effective Board," addresses the functions and responsibilities of the board as well as board decision-making, evaluation, and committees. The fifth module, "Risk Governance," addresses risk management concepts, risk management models, fostering a culture of risk awareness, and crisis management. The "Finance for Non-Finance Directors" sixth module equips learners with the abilities and information required to assess corporate strategies and participate more effectively in board meetings. The last session, "Role of the Director and the Board," gives learners the skills they need to succeed in the boardroom and advance their careers.
