The 2024 World Entrepreneurship Investment Forum has concluded on May 16, 2024, with a highlight on women entrepreneurs. The event has been running in Bahrain’s Manama, since May 14. 2024. Women entrepreneurs hailing from Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan and Gaza got a special attention during the wrap up of the event.
A panel discussion also took place where topics like ‘Women, Peace and Security’ was on the notice. As reported by UN News, the businesswomen who attended the event shared their stories focusing on how their projects pushed them in order to aid others and of the need for more funding.
A Palestinian businesswoman from Gaza, Tahani Abu Daqqa mentioned, “I am the first Palestinian woman to work in Gaza to create job opportunities for women such as clothing and biscuit factories, so that they could…remain in Gaza because many Gazans were going to work outside the Strip.”
She added, “I established the Damour Foundation, focusing on environmental initiatives, like water-attracting devices and sewage treatment units powered by solar energy. I also created ‘Gaza Life for Renewable Energy,’ while facing financing challenges. Eventually I succeeded, only to see the project destroyed before completion.”
In addition to Tahani, there were other women like Alaa Hamadto from Sudan, Malalai Helmandi Basima Abdulrahman also shared their experiences during the event.
