The East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP) collaborated with GIZ East Africa to offer a workshop aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and maximizing the potential of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA). The campaign, which intended to boost women-owned businesses, focused on raising knowledge of the AfCTA's trade protocol.
The session, given by EAWiBP Chairperson Elizabeth Thande, highlighted the importance of thorough information before pursuing the opportunities offered by the AfCTA. Thande added, "A lot of people are familiar with the African trade sector, but there are many things we need to know before we begin dealing. Like logistics, trade policies, and everything else that is necessary to truly capitalize on the prospects."
Janice Kimaro, representing EAWiBP, emphasized the importance of partnership in empowering women through the AfCTA. She described the session as a demonstration of a shared commitment, with opportunities for development, learning, and strategizing to create women-led enterprises in the region.
Ruth Ndegwa, CEO of Mirco Foods, emphasized the platform's value in networking and skill development for female entrepreneurs. She said, "This is a platform that gives us an opportunity, especially as women, to be able to network with like-minded partners and to acquire different skills."
The training aims to provide women entrepreneurs with the information and skills required to manage the complexity of commerce inside the AfCTA, resulting in unparalleled development and opportunity for women-led firms in the area.
