In support of women's rights, actor Jennifer Lawrence and producer Justine Ciarrocchi brought up a different idea to showcase the world the Afghan Filmmaker and its documentary. While the world watched Kabul fall and the Taliban retake control in 2021 after the withdrawal of US forces, it needs to be shown in the Afghan Documentary.
According to Justine, Jennifer wanted to find out an Afghan Filmmaker and then provide them a platform. After researching the topic, they ended up discovering the filmmaker Sahra Mani who recorded a documentary in 2019 named, "A Thousand Girls Like Me" which showcased a sexually assaulted women's search for justice.
The Cannes Film Festival which is a wide platform to premiere any selected film, documentary, feature, etc debuted the documentary by Sahra Mani named "Bread and Roses", on Sunday which revolved around women's everyday life during the Taliban's resurgence.
The film was launched with a remark from Sahra that, This film contains a message from women in Afghanistan; Please be their voice who are speechless under the Taliban Dictatorship.
She even addressed the media and presented her statements to the website of Cannes that she intends to show the truth of how radically the women of Afghanistan’s lives have been changed under Taliban Dictatorship.
She even stated that the safety of the crew members and those people who were a part of filming this documentary was initially important. However, the lives of women have been changed under the Taliban is a cruel reality that cannot be ignored.
