In a groundbreaking initiative, 17 exceptional African women executives have been identified and rewarded for their remarkable contributions to corporate affairs, public relations, and corporate communications. These trailblazing women have not only achieved outstanding accomplishments but have also significantly influenced their respective industries.
Led by Sam Gqomo, head of Womandla Global Network, this initiative aims to honor these pioneering personalities within the sectors and celebrate their great efforts. The notable women hail from major corporations such as Procter & Gamble, Mastercard, and Kellogg SA, as well as accomplished businesspeople from Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
As part of the campaign, each contender was invited to provide their perspectives on how PR and communications can contribute to the sustainable development of Africa. Their insightful viewpoints have been highlighted to inspire new developments and promote the continent's expansion.
Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, CEO of Stratcomm Africa, emphasized the critical role of communication and PR in Africa's development. She stated that these tools play a vital role in closing the knowledge gap and empowering Africans for sustainable development. Additionally, they facilitate the education of individuals bringing inventions to Africa by informing them about the local conditions and effective collaboration methods.
Kamini Redhi, vice president of marketing and communications at Mastercard for Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted the contributions of marketing and communications to Africa's sustainable development. She emphasized that starting conversations, raising awareness through information sharing, enabling stakeholder engagement, and encouraging actions are all crucial in driving positive change, socioeconomic growth, and sustainable development in Africa.
Zandile Mposelwa (MBA), director of corporate affairs at Kellogg South Africa, stressed the importance of telling authentic and appropriate African stories. She emphasized that supporting the growth and development imperatives of the continent, particularly in reputation-building and management, relies on sharing these stories.
Ingrid von Stein, principal communications strategist at Dentsu, underscored the crucial role of PR and communications in Africa's sustainable growth. She explained that these practices build bridges between communities, encourage collaboration through strategic storytelling, amplify the views of African entrepreneurs, attract funding, foster innovation, and promote cultural interaction and ethical tourism while dispelling preconceptions.
The recognition of these exceptional African women executives signifies a significant step forward in acknowledging their immense contributions and inspiring further progress in corporate affairs, public relations, and corporate communications throughout the continent.
