1,000 women from various African countries are all set to get together in Johannesburg, South Africa for a meeting from January 27 to January 31, 2025.

The 1000 women will be coming together to discuss varied women related issues. The meeting is being conducted by the Women’s Development Business Trust (WDB Trust).

The meeting will also coincide with the impending celebration of Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPFA)’s 30th anniversary to be celebrated by Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York.

An AfWID initiative, the meeting intends to build a platform for African women to discuss the challenges faced by them along with brainstorming about difficult issues impacting their communities.

Nigeria is sending a delegation consisting of 16 participants. The Nigerin delegation will be led by Dr Chinyere Chukwudebelu, a member of the AfWID 2025 Steering Committee and Regional Leader for Anglophone and Lusophone West Africa.

The meeting will see young participants getting the opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced activists and leaders.

Mama Zanele Mbeki, the leader behind AfWID and a recognized advocate for women’s rights has highlighted the requisite for marginalised women to have a form where they can voice the issues that impact their lives. “Every woman, regardless of her background, has something valuable to contribute,” Mama Zanele Mbeki said.
