AG Tsakani Maluleke is slated to join the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) as an external auditor in the coming year. She will be the first woman to hold this office.
The news of Tsakani Maluleke’s appointment was confirmed by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday. She was elected by members of different committees and subsidiary organs of the UN agency for the next six years.
“On behalf of government and the nation, I congratulate our auditor-general on her election to a global role which is an acknowledgment of her personal capabilities and the leadership capacity and integrity that resides in South Africa’s governance institutions,” said Ramaphosa.
Tsakani has been vocal about various issues about South Africa’s challenges pertaining to financial health, municipal spending of outsourced accountants.
By qualification, Tsakani is a chartered accountant and also a registered auditor. She also has a BCom (Accounting) degree along with a postgraduate diploma in accountancy from the University of Cape Town. Her list of qualifications also include a PG diploma in development and public management.
