A multi stakeholder platform Grow Asia founded in 2015 brings together over 600 partners to create sustainable food systems in Southeast Asia by supporting nearly 2.5 million smallholder farmers across six countries where AGRA, established in 2006, focuses on empowering smallholder farmers by turning agriculture into a thriving business. By this they both have partnered together to boost up south south cooperation between Africa and Asia
AGRA and Grow Asia have entered into a collaboration agreement to drive food system transformation in Africa and Asia. Rooted in South-South Cooperation, the partnership will facilitate the development of knowledge exchange programs, joint case studies, research, and, when relevant, the sharing of tools and resources between the leading agri-food platforms in both regions.
The collaboration agreement between AGRA and Grow Asia was announced during the Grow Asia Forum in Singapore on Tuesday, 18 October. South-South cooperation involves technical collaboration between developing countries in the Global South. It is commonly used by international organizations, civil society, and the private sector to share knowledge and skills in areas like agricultural development and climate change mitigation.
The event was Grow Asia's annual summit, co-hosted with the World Economic Forum. "Grow Asia has given us the opportunity to unite Africa and Asia, allowing us to leverage the strengths of both continents. This is the ideal moment to enhance South-South Cooperation and learn from each other. We aim to show that international collaboration remains a key pillar in feeding more people and protecting our planet. This meeting marks the beginning of a series of commitments between our institutions and countries across the Global South," said Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of AGRA.
"South-South Cooperation is key to Grow Asia’s work, connecting over 600 partners in Southeast Asia to tackle food system challenges," says Beverley Postma, Executive Director of Grow Asia. "Africa and Asia share similar food system issues, and regional cooperation drive economic growth, trade, and trust. We’re excited about AGRA’s partnership and the opportunities this agreement will bring."
