Applications for Awards for inspiring women in science 2023 Now Open

The prizes, which were developed in partnership with The Estée Lauder Companies, are meant to honour and celebrate the accomplishments made by women in science in addition to everyone who work to encourage young girls and women to pursue careers in STEM-related fields of study and work. STEM includes the natural sciences, technology, engineering, math, and medicine.

The Inspiring Women in Science awards honour and promote the contributions made by women in science, as well as all those who seek to inspire young girls and women worldwide to pursue professions in STEM fields.

They are accepting submissions for the Science Outreach and Scientific Achievement award categories:

Science Outreach Category

The Nature Awards for Inspiring Women in Science recognise initiatives that inspire girls and young women to be passionate about, pursue, and become interested in STEM disciplines OR that enhance the retention of women in STEM fields. STEM includes the natural sciences, technology, engineering, math, and medicine. These programs may be administered by an individual, an organization, or a governmental, educational, philanthropic, or business institution. For corporate entities, the efforts should be a component of a corporate social responsibility program rather than being essential to running the business.

Scientific Achievement Category

Early-career female researchers are honoured by the Nature Awards for Inspiring Women in Science - Scientific Achievement Category. The selected applicant may have surmounted substantial challenges at both the personal and professional level and will have made important scientific advances. Moreover, the candidate will have the capacity to lead and organise a team of independent researchers. Also, they pay close attention to candidates that promote the retention of women in science jobs or make outreach efforts to encourage the next generation of scientists.

Prizes

  • The award for Nature Awards' Science Outreach category for encouraging women in science is $50,000.The organizer's invitation to the prize presentation in London, with lodging and travel costs, is covered. A substitute virtual presentation or appreciation will be planned if holding such a ceremony is neither feasible nor wise.

  • The candidates that made the cut will: Have their profiles posted on the Nature Award website
  • Access a private mentorship and networking community website.

A reward of US$50,000 will be awarded to the winner of the Nature Awards' Scientific Achievement category.

  • An invitation to the award presentation in London, with the Promoter covering travel and lodging costs. A substitute virtual presentation or appreciation will be planned if holding such a ceremony is neither feasible nor wise.

The Science Outreach Category is looking for initiatives that have either encouraged girls or young women to engage with and study natural sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine, or increased retention of women in STEM careers. Applicants must be within 10 years of completing their Ph.D. degree or medical degree, or another type of doctorate by dissertation, and must hold a non-tenured position. They use an inclusive definition of 'woman' and 'women', and welcome trans women, genderqueer, and non-binary people. They accept applications from organizations, departments, individuals (of any gender), or project teams.
