Australia retained the Women’s Ashes in just nine days, securing their fourth consecutive win in the multi-format series. The Australians defeated England by 57 runs in the first of three T20s, clinching the series victory and continuing their dominant performance in the competition.
All three one-day internationals were won by Australia, giving them an unassailable 8-0 lead in the series. With only eight points left to play for, the Women’s Ashes have already been secured, further cementing Australia’s dominance in the multi-format competition.
Australia needs to win or draw either of the remaining two T20s or the series-closing Test match to secure the series outright, having already built an unassailable lead. Their position guarantees they will retain the Women’s Ashes regardless of the outcomes of the final matches.
The Ashes have been held by Australia since 2015, when they won the multi-format series on English soil, marking a period of dominance in women’s cricket.
In the first T20 at Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia posted 198-7, with Beth Mooney’s 51-ball 75 leading the charge. England struggled early, losing both openers within the first seven balls, and was eventually dismissed for 141 in the 16th over, giving Australia a commanding 57-run victory.
