Australian internation player and leg spinner, Alana King’s sensational performance during the Women’s Ashes helped her earn the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for February 2025. Being an Australian leg spinner, she edged out a strong competition from Annabel Sutherland who was her teammate and Thipatcha Putthawong from Thailand for claiming this award.
Alana’s win extends the dominance of team Australia in the accolade followed by the winning by Sutherland in December 2024 and Beth Mooney in January 2025. This triumph made it three consecutive months that an Australian player has held such an honour.
Marking it as the first time, Alana has received the ICC monthly award where she quickly credited her teammates for their collective success.
In a statement, Alana said, “It’s been a big summer for the girls, and we’re obviously really pleased to have retained the Ashes the way we did. I was proud to have played a role in that success and will remember that series, in particular the Test match, for a long time. There’s no bigger stage than an Ashes Test on the MCG, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”
Moreover, Alana’s performance was incredible in terms of earning her the award since she played a pivotal role in the dominant victory of the team over team England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in one-off Test, delivering just 98 runs in a stunning match haul of nine wickets. With this, she led the emphatic innings of the team and 122-run victory.
