Bettina Orlopp becomes Next CEO of Commerzbank AG

After waiting for 4 years, Bettina Orlopp has finally been declared as the next CEO by Commerzbank AG. The announcement has been made by the supervisory board of the bank on September 24, 2024. With this unexpected turn of events, she becomes the first ever woman to take up this position. The decision was made just after Manfred Knof, the current CEO of the bank, did not agree to renew his contract anymore.

Founded in 1870, Commerzbank AG caters in the banking industry with headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, Hessen and holds speciality in financial services. This bank is the leading bank for the German Mittelstand.

In addition, Bettina has been working with the bank since 2014, holding different positions. Prior to joining here, she has worked with McKinsey & Company for 19 long years, making her a seasoned professional in the industry.

Bettina said, “While we have a strategy that is effective, significant tasks lie ahead. We will navigate through the challenges ahead of us successfully. Issues like this cause unrest. We don’t need them because we are on an excellent path.” Now, she will be handling certain responsibilities of this 154-year-old company, becoming a strong business leader of her kind.
