Brac Bank Celebrates Sixth Anniversary of Tara, a Groundbreaking Project Empowering Bangladeshi Women

Brac Bank recently commemorated the sixth anniversary of its revolutionary project, "Tara," which has been instrumental in providing a wide range of financial products tailored specifically for women in Bangladesh. Tara has empowered women by offering customer-centric solutions that add value to their lives, allowing them to take control of their finances, businesses, careers, and goals.

Over the past six years, Tara has emerged as a trusted partner, aiding over 300,000 women in various fields, including corporate professionals, entrepreneurs, homemakers, students, and seniors. The project has played a pivotal role in offering appropriate financial solutions to women from all socioeconomic backgrounds, regardless of their status.

To mark this significant milestone, Brac Bank organized an event at its headquarters in Dhaka on June 22. During the occasion, the prestigious Tara Business Champion Award was presented to 22 outstanding SME bankers and 24 exceptional retail bankers. The awards were handed out by Brac Bank's Managing Director and CEO, Selim RF Hussain.

Among the notable attendees were M Masud Rana FCA, DMD & CFO; Md. Sabbir Hossain, DMD & COO; Syed Abdul Momen, DMD & Head of SME Banking; Md. Mahiul Islam, Head of Retail Banking; Sheikh Mohammad Ashfaque, Head of Branches; Mehruba Reza, Head, Women Banking Segment TARA & Agami-Student Banking Service; and Khadija Mariam, Head of Women Entrepreneur Cell, BRAC Bank.

Selim RF Hussain, Managing Director and CEO of Brac Bank, expressed, "Tara has become an integral part of women's lives in Bangladesh. It has revolutionized the way women approach banking, manage their finances, and achieve their life goals. Women can seek guidance from Tara for better money management, financial independence, and the realization of their aspirations."

He further emphasized that Tara is more than just a financial concept; it is a means to empower every woman to reach her full potential. Tara offers a diverse range of financial products and services, including high-interest savings accounts, current accounts for female business owners, credit cards, preferential business loans, home loans, and personal loans with reduced processing fees.

Additionally, Tara has actively engaged in capacity-building initiatives to support women in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Collaborative programs such as "Uddokta 101" with Brac University, training programs for women in hill tracts, partnerships with SME Foundation, and the Babson College-FMO skill development program have enabled women to unleash their entrepreneurial potential.

Tara's outstanding contributions have earned global recognition. It has received accolades such as the Financial Alliance for Women's Championing the Female Economy Awards 2022, the Global SME Finance Forum's Best Bank for Women Entrepreneurs Award, and recognition from the Financial Times-IFC for its efforts in women's empowerment and financial inclusion.
