Scholarships are available for women who wish to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) at prestigious UK universities. In an effort to promote women's academic and professional development, the British Council has teamed with many prestigious UK universities to award Women in STEM Scholarships to women holding bachelor's degrees in STEM fields. The program offers 25 elite scholarships to women from South Asia and India who are committed to advancing diversity and supporting the UK's leadership in global research.
Aiming to empower women in STEM fields, the British Council Scholarships for Women initiative has selected female candidates from UK universities such as Queen Mary University of London, Anglia Ruskin University, Greenwich University, and Coventry University. Applications for the UK scholarship must be submitted by September/October 2024–2025, with documentation of the need for financial support, a bachelor's degree in a STEM program, a passing score on the TOEFL English language proficiency exam, and relevant work experience in the applicant's field. They have to agree to be a committed recipient of a British Council scholarship.
The scholarship seeks to assist female students studying STEM fields; the UK is ranked third in the world for citable research. With 92 scholars enrolled in 2023, the council will have given out over 300 scholarships since 2020. Through this program, 52 Indian women have been awarded scholarships.
