Singapore’s Civil Aviation Authority – CAAS has recently embarked on a major drive to urge the young women to consider taking up careers in aviation in a bid that is supported by Women in Aviation Singapore Chapter – WAI-SG. The two firms are one of the recent signatories of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancing aviation science knowledge amongst young women in Singapore.
Outcomes of this partnership will include concepting and implementing a spectrum of aviation-related activities as well as establishing a variety of materials to demonstrate the many opportunities in the field. Through the emphasis on diversity in career options within aviation, both CAAS and WAI-SG set out to inspire young women to embrace STEM and choose those fields.
As well as supporting STEM and aviation careers the MoU provides plans to deliver programs to develop leadership, employability and long-term relations in the aviation industry.
These initiatives are insisted by the rapidly developing aviation industry in Singapore, activating the construction of Terminal Five of Changi Airport. Bearing the potential of bringing the airport’s throughput another 50 million passengers a year in the mid 2030s, development will generate a wide range of employment opportunities for occupations as pilots, engineers, air traffic control staff and various categories of passenger services officers.
In an interview, the Director-General of CAAS, Han Kok Juan, explained the importance of this cooperation as follows: “As the aviation industry in Singapore develops, we fully support women’s entry into the profession. It is time to go for growth with the industry and assist in raising Singapore’s aviation to new levels.”
Through this collaboration, CAAS embarks on a mission to making the aviation industry a welcoming place for young women, to contribute to its development.
