Catherine Régis has been appointed as Co-Director of the CAISI Research Program at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), alongside Nicolas Papernot. The program aims to advance research on technical and social-impact challenges of the Canadian AI Safety Institute (CAISI), enabling experts from home and abroad to examine crucial issues. The CIFAR-funded research program will focus on applied and investigator-led research to explore critical issues concerning artificial intelligence safety.
Catherine Régis is a professor at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law and a Mila member who will co-direct the Canadian Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (CAISI) research program. Catherine is involved in AI governance, safety, and responsible development. She will co-lead the program, with Nicolas Papernot, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Computer Science, and the Faculty of Law. Catherine's research focuses on global AI governance, healthcare regulation, and human rights approaches in AI.
Catherine is also a Canada CIFAR AI Chair at Mila (Quebec AI Institute), co-chairs the Responsible AI Working Group at the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), and is a Director of Social Innovation and International Policy at IVADO.
