Recognising the value of empowered women for the growth of the Kingdom's economy, the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh has declared its support for women's economic empowerment in Cambodia. The message from the embassy was made public on August 17, 2023.
Women entrepreneurs in Cambodia play a crucial role, yet they still encounter a number of obstacles when it comes to running and growing their firms.
14 of Cambodia's top female entrepreneurs recently travelled to Australia on a trip organised by the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED). They got the chance to interact with business owners, prominent government officials, and directors of women's organisations during this tour. The objective was to create professional networks and exchange ideas and information.
"I am appreciative since it was affirmed when I arrived that 'financial inclusion for women is a fundamental mechanism that assists women to better express their rights'. It was inspiring, and we knew we had made the correct decisions and would continue to do our jobs without doubt, according to Ms. Bonnarath Virak, Lady Saving Group co-founder and programme manager.
It's important to note that women hold at least 60% of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Cambodia. A total of 58 percent of the country's gross domestic product has come from this industry.
