Caribbean Export & GAC forms Partnership to Support Female Entrepreneurs

The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) has formed an alliance with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) with an intent towards strengthening economic empowerment of women in the Caribbean.

Underscoring a shared commitment, this collaboration will support female entrepreneurs while fostering inclusive economic growth as well as focus on enhancing the competitiveness of the vicinity in the global market.

Caribbean Export shall execute the Caribbean Women Entrepreneurs Generating Resilient and Inclusive Trade (GRIT) project worth $3.46 million through this partnership. It will also put its focus on Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

This particular project aims towards providing tools, knowledge, and resources to female entrepreneurs that are required for scaling their businesses while embracing innovation and expanding expand into international markets that also includes Canada.

In a statement, Caribbean Export Executive Director Dr. Damie Sinanan emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Women entrepreneurs are at the heart of economic transformation in the Caribbean. By empowering them with the necessary skills, networks, and opportunities, we can drive sustainable economic growth and build more resilient communities. We value the strong partnership with Global Affairs Canada and look forward to the positive impact of our collaboration.”

Additionally, Ahmed Hussen, the Canada’s Minister of International Development added, “The Government of Canada is firmly committed to advancing women’s economic empowerment in the Caribbean by supporting initiatives that promote gender equality, economic growth and sustainable development. By investing in programs that remove systemic barriers and build the capacity of local organizations, our goal is to create an environment in which women can fully participate in and be involved in the region’s economic prosperity.”
