Carla Vicente, Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Canada, has illustrated how a legal education may lead to a variety of leadership positions. Carla advanced to the post of Country Managing Director, supervising the company's varied business areas, after joining Hitachi Energy as the Head of Legal and Integrity.
Carla’s adventure began six months after joining Hitachi, when she was appointed Vice President of the Board of Directors. She then took advantage of the chance to enroll in Hitachi's worldwide emerging talent program, which led to her present distinguished position.
Carla said of her unusual professional path, "Being able to transition from a legal role to a top management business role is something I'm very proud of." She stressed the need of lateral transfers inside a firm, particularly one with varied business groups like Hitachi.
Carla, as Country Managing Director, is critical in driving Hitachi Energy Canada toward a more sustainable future. The corporation has lowered its carbon impact and aspires to attain carbon neutrality under her leadership. Carla regularly participates to cybersecurity debates by leveraging her legal experience and combining legal and commercial viewpoints.
Carla advocates diversity and inclusion as the executive sponsor for Hitachi's Women in Energy Group in North America, in addition to her leadership duties. Looking ahead to 2024, she hopes to continue working with customers and government agencies to further Hitachi's environmental goals.
Carla’s dedication to developing talent and promoting staff well-being exemplifies her all-encompassing leadership style. "We can all be business-focused, but if you can't recognize that, at the end of the day, we're all human beings, then you're not a good leader." "You can't achieve your business goals unless you have people," she stated emphatically.
