Chanel Contos appointed to lead the Global Youth Advisory Committee

Former prime minister of Australia Julia Gillard has appointed Chanel Contos who is a sexual consent activist to lead the youth committee for the Global Institute for Women's Leadership (GIWL).

Julia has served as the director of the research and advocacy institute to address a variety of gender inequality issues that includes the reasons for gender inequality in the workplace, women and diverse people becoming underrepresented in leadership roles, also the methods used to evaluate the discrimination between the genders.

The Australian National University and the King's College co-run this institute of research and advocacy, which frequently hosts debates and conferences on the latest activist research in gender equity.

Chanel will lead the Global Youth Advisory Committee as its chairperson which will bring about a variety of perspectives and viewpoints of the young people to the institute's researchers and policy advocates.

The committee will be open to anyone who is under 30 age group. The main focus will be on identifying the growing difficulties and challenges faced by young people. It will also look forward to the opportunities for the youth to grow the gender equality space.

Chanel who has recently been recognized for her efforts as an advocate for consent is named in the 2023 NSW Young Woman of the Year, she described the new role as "a privilege."

The GIWL Youth Advisory Committee will act as a network for young people who can provide advice to GIWL and will also contribute to the direction of the Institute's research, engagement, and policy.
