By: WE Staff | Monday, 1 May 2023

Lyndsay Handler is a proud woman for two things in her life: the ventures she has founded and the communities she has nurtured. She is the managing partner and co-founder of Delta40 moved to East Africa in 2003, and over the next two decades, she has built enterprises in Fintech, clean energy, and agriculture.

She has been the managing partner of the venture studio Delta40 since 2022, which invests in "disruptive innovations" which is created by African founders in order to increase incomes and handle the climatic change in Africa.

Agriculture, energy, and mobility are its primary investment areas which are also referred to as climate change. By targeting mostly female founders, the company hopes to raise $30 million (Sh3.9 billion) over the next five years.

The earliest ventures of the studio were in agriculture. The majority of Africans rely on agriculture for both their income and food security. Their ability to invest in other areas has been possible only due to their ability to earn more money which somehow enhances their resilience.

The new treatments for seeds that increase germination rates and are more drought tolerant in low rainfall areas are the subjects for research in the studio. The expenses of these treatments are comparatively low when the appropriate technology is used.

Lyndsay further said that the East Africans are some of the most entrepreneurial people in the world contrary to popular belief. If one finds the right products, the market of Africa is blooming.

She added that the young people who want to gain knowledge and make a difference have a lot of talent and if you can create the ideal and life-changing product, there is a great opportunity. It can also reach tens of millions of people.
