Delta Airlines alongside JA Africa organized a boot camp session for with 30 high school-aged girls who are based in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, to observe International Women’s Day (IWD). During the session, Delta Airlines’ General Sales Agent’s Manager, Eloina Baddoo suggests women to ponder into aviation industry roles in order to keep up gender balance.
Eloina exclaimed that the aviation industry has been lacking women’s contribution in the past few years. Although she expressed her conviction that women can mark their presence in the sector if they get proper education, mentorship along with encouragement towards pursuing a career in this male-dominated sector.
She said in a statement, “It’s essential to recognise and accommodate uniqueness, rather than expecting everyone to learn or acquire the same knowledge or skills.”
Norfund’s Regional Director for West Africa, Naana Winful Fynn also highlighted the need for women to take their potential into consideration and get out of their comfort zone. She added, “For young women, I think it is important to seek out mentors at all levels in life. They can be your teachers, seniors and parents. They will help guide you.”
