  • Four-year partnership will foster climate leadership among young women.
  • H.E. Christian Brix Møller, Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh and Dr Rubana Huq, Vice Chancellor of AUW signed the partnership.

Denmark and the Asian University for Women (AUW) have signed a new project with the aim of fostering climate leadership among young women. This four-year partnership will amalgamate academia and industry to create youth-driven climate solutions.

The partnership was signed between H.E. Christian Brix Møller, Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh and Dr Rubana Huq, Vice Chancellor of AUW.

H.E. Christian Brix Møller said, “As a university promoting women´s leadership and offering higher education to the most vulnerable women from diverse backgrounds, AUW is uniquely positioned to implement the promises of this climate leadership project. Through this engagement, we believe AUW can create women leaders who can step up as climate frontrunners for Bangladesh and the region.

This initiative seeks to cultivate innovative leaders and change-makers in climate change by offering AUW students extensive education and training in environmental engineering, climate science, and leadership. The program will prepare students to take an essential part in promoting climate resilience and environmental sustainability.

Dr Rubana Huq said “AUW has always been a symbol of creativity and ingenuity. This partnership will create opportunities for our students to be engaged with climate-related discourses and research. I would like to recall the contribution of Lone Dybkjær, who was instrumental in setting up this university.

A key role in the establishment of AUW was played by the late Lone Dybkjær, a former Danish politician. Having been involved since inception, The Lone Dybkjær Foundation still renders scholarships to AUW students and facilitates exchange programmes.

Under the new partnership scholarships, internships, and job placement opportunities will also be offered to AUW students.
