Isobel Coleman, the deputy administrator, went to India from June 10 to June 14 to represent the US at the G20 Development Ministerial. She met with partners to discuss USAID's joint initiatives with the Government of India to advance climate action, close the gender digital divide, expand women's economic empowerment, and improve health outcomes.
At the G20 Development Ministerial, Deputy Administrator Coleman provided updates on the U.S.'s development priorities up to the commitment of the 2023 Agenda during the sessions on "Multilateralism - Collective Actions for Accelerating Progress towards SDGs" and "Green Development with a LiFE Approach."
Isobel spoke during two summit sessions about the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development's implementation and emphasized USAID's work on data for development, women-led development, and climate change.
Isobel called for immediate action to close the gender digital divide at the Women in the Digital Economy Initiative, which invited the G20 members and other stakeholders. She even emphasized the need to speed up efforts being made to reduce methane emissions and food waste in order to meet the 2030 Goals. The need to emphasize having a positive impact on the economy's growth, nutrition, and food security was discussed.
In addition to the official G20 meetings, Deputy Administrator Coleman had meetings with a number of other representatives from India, Bangladesh, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union (EU), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Isobel continued by highlighting the importance of the G20 in addressing the issues brought about by the Russian Federation's unjustified and unprovoked war against Ukraine in both bilateral and G20 Ministerial sessions, particularly the negative effects on global food and energy security.
