The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Women’s Business Council Philippines, Inc. (WomenBizPh) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to shine the spotlight on the benefits of free trade agreements (FTAs). Highlighting the benefits of FTAs such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement, the MOU’s objective is to strengthen Philippines’ utilization of these arrangements.

The support provided by WomenBizPH to the Department’s trade education and advocacy campaign was recognized by Pascual, the Secretary of DTI. He said, “Our MOU is a tangible step toward creating globally competitive and innovative industries in our county. By intensifying our trade education and advocacy efforts, we hope to prepare our stakeholders better and fully inform business owners and entrepreneurs about the opportunities these trade agreements and other preferential arrangements present.”

The MOU signed will lead to WomenBizPh working with DTI in conducting education campaigns and disseminating information. These initiatives will also include capacity-building workshops and mentorship programs.

Mylene Abiva, Chairperson, WomenBizPH stated that the new collaboration with DTI is a significant milestone for Philippines as it begins a journey to promote women’s economic empowerment.
