In a significant step toward gender diversity, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a leading industrial organization in the UAE, stated that women now make up 20% of its trainee workforce in the first year of its long-standing technical training programs for women.
EGA's technical training efforts, founded in 1982, have typically prepared high school graduates for technical positions. The first cohort of women began participating in these programs in November 2022, marking a watershed event, with a total of 75 national trainees enrolled by 2023.
The training programs, which last six months to three years, include both theoretical and practical instruction, preparing participants for positions in EGA's smelters, power plants, desalination facilities, and maintenance.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, stated, "As a UAE industrial champion, we recognize our role in developing strong local talent, with a particular focus on women, to achieve our bold aspiration of being the industrial employer of choice by 2030."
In 2023, EGA employed 120 UAE nationals, including 37 women, reinforcing their commitment to Emiratisation and gender diversity. EGA intends to increase its Emiratisation initiatives, with the goal of having UAE citizens make up 48% of the in-focus staff by 2026.
With a 42.6% Emiratisation rate, EGA is one of the leading firms in this area. The firm intends to engage up to 500 UAE citizens over the next three years, demonstrating its commitment to developing local talent for long-term economic growth.
EGA also hired 30 graduate trainees in 2023, the majority of them were women (17). The corporation intends to boost the share of women in managerial positions to 25% by 2025, and 15% of all posts at EGA by 2026.
