Emirates NBD-Egypt has signed to Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) of United Nation (UN). WEPs is an initiative which has been launched by UN Women in an alliance with the UN Global Compact. In this new step by the bank, shows its dedication towards fostering a gender inclusive workplace and empowering women in the society as well.
The adoption of WEPs by Emirates NBD-Egypt shall allow it build a global network which will help them to empower women. The bank consists of 43 per cent of workspace in addition to 20 per cent leadership team which are occupied women.
Emirates NBD-Egypt’s CEO and Managing Director, Amr El Shafei said, “At Emirates NBD Egypt, we profoundly believe in gender equality, and through the adoption of the UN’s Women’s Empowerment Principles, we reinforce our commitment to empowering women economically and socially. This strategically aligns with our vision for driving sustainable development and fostering inclusivity in the workplace, propelling societal advancement and boosting the Egyptian economy.”
Shafei added, “Through proactive policies and initiatives, we ensure equal opportunities and promote gender equality, enhancing our organization's strategic growth and success.”
By implementing the principles, the firm will be able to put up a workspace which is diverse and inclusive in nature while strengthening women’s empowerment in society.
Additionally, Emirates NBD-Egypt’s Head of the Strategy and Sustainability Sector, Amgad Doma in a statement said, “We are steadfastly committed to collaborating with organizations that align with the bank’s strategic objectives and contribute to their realization. Our partnership with UN Women marks a significant milestone in our journey towards gender equality in the workplace, a cornerstone of sustainable development. We are proud to be part of a global network dedicated to empowering women through education, training, professional development, and fostering equal opportunities for all.”
Emirates NBD-Egypt step towards implementing the principles adds the firm to the list of 102 companies that has adopted the WEPs as well by February.
