The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2024 is ready to begin underway at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, with a significant female Emirati influence both in the player roster and behind the scenes. The all-female tennis competition, now in its second year, offers a thrilling combination of ability and inventiveness.
Among the prominent competitors are WTA top 10 players Elena Rybakina, Maria Sakkari, and Barbora Krejčíková, along with wildcard entry and US Open 2021 winner Emma Raducanu. Adding a distinctive touch to the event, Azza Al Qubaisi, a prominent local artist, has been entrusted with creating the championship trophy.
Al Qubaisi, a previous recipient of the British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards and Emirates Woman of the Year Awards, expressed her delight, saying, "A decade ago, I designed the trophy for the men's champion at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, and it's a great privilege to now do the same for the winner of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open in 2024."
Photographer Hind AlRaeesi, famed for her work at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, will record the tournament's major moments, while artist Aysha Al Shamsi worked with Mubadala to create the master artwork for the Mubadala Pavilion, which celebrates the capital's heritage and Mubadala's accomplishments.
Chef Meera Eisa Alnaqbi, the winner of the Gulfood Youth X competition in 2022, rounds up the Emirati foursome and is excited to display her culinary skills at the event. The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, a combination of sports and creative expression, will be a fascinating spectacle from February 3 to 11.
