Carl Arntzen, the CEO of Worcester Bosch carries confidence that the engineering professional would greatly benefit with a diverse workforce, urging more females to pursue career in this particular industry.
Founded in 1962, Worcester Bosch is a major business that caters in the Manufacturing industry with headquarters in Worcestershire, having specialities in Domestic Boilers, Boiler Controls, Cylinders, Spares, System Filters, Training, Customer Service, Heat Pumps, and Solar Thermal.
Additionally, Carl was recently awarded by Birmingham City University (BCU), with an honorary doctorate. Also, he has received his accolade from Ade Adepitan, the new BCU Chancellor stating, “Engineering has been traditionally male dominated, but we need to break the barriers down.”
He said, “The engineering fraternity is missing out on great talent. Women bring a different dimension. They think differently – and that’s really healthy to have. I’ve always been really keen to make sure that we expand the opportunities for careers in engineering, particularly to women and minority groups. We try to do that at Worcester Bosch, and I try to do that in other ways, too. The IoT shares this dedication to inclusion, and I’m glad to say that BCU is playing an active role in championing those causes.”
Furthermore, Carl has always advocated for inclusion all throughout his career with the organisation which is a key player in the UK domestic boilers market. The group has been a global Women in Engineering movement’s participants under Carl’s leadership while being involved with the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Institute of Technology (IoT). Besides, going back on the lane, Carl started his career in the organisation when he was just 20 as an intern, believing that the engineering career promotion should begin early.
He added to his statement, saying, “It needs to start at primary school, by targeting girls from a young age and by keeping the engagement going until they decide which career to pursue. The best advocates are existing female engineers, who can attend careers fairs or carry out school visits, but we also need to educate teachers so they can help signpost opportunities.”
