Entrepreneur Halla Tomasdottir wins Iceland's Presidential Election

Halla Tomasdottir who is an entrepreneur, has now won the presidential election of Iceland. She will be taking over from incumbent Gudni Johannesson, the mostly ceremonial role. This 55-year-old lady has received votes cast of 34 percent during the election on June 1, 2024 in the North Atlantic nation.

She has defeated Katrin Jakobsdottir, the former Prime Minister. Katrin stepped down in the month of April as premier to run for president. She has assembled votes of 25 percent, as per RUV report. Holding limited political powers, the President has been elected for a 4-year tenure. She shall act as an island nation’s uniting figure of almost 400,000 people, which is a NATO member.

Halla Tomasdottir will serve as Iceland’s 7th president heretofore the republic’s foundation in the year 1944. Halla came 2nd behind Johannesson, when she ran for president 8 years ago. She shall be sworn in on August 1, 2024. Her victory is an example of women’s utmost will and potential towards winning anything and everything that they decide to get.
