Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) has chosen Monique Conheady as the new Commissioner and Chairperson of its all-women commission team in a significant step towards encouraging gender diversity and renewable energy. The news comes as Victoria continues its transition to a future powered by renewable and sustainable energy sources.
Beginning on August 1, Monique will serve a five-year term on the three-member ESV Commission, working closely with Deputy Chairperson and Commissioner Michelle Groves and Commissioner Sarah McDowell.
The Victorian Government recognises Monique as a successful leader in the energy industry and is convinced that she will bring to her new position a depth of expertise in regulatory control and technical credentials in civil and environmental engineering.
Ms. Monique is actively promoting the expansion of Victoria's digital ecosystem in her current role as Chair of Cremorne Digital Hub. She also serves as a non-executive director of the Environmental Protection Authority of Victoria and formerly held the positions of chair and vice chair of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation and commercial passenger vehicles Victoria, respectively.
Given her position as co-founder and CEO of award-winning carshare company Flexicar, her contributions to the energy industry are particularly remarkable. Additionally, she is a co-founder, director, and deputy chair of DC Power Co, an electricity retailer with an emphasis on solar-powered homes, holding major roles in the field of renewable energy. She heads JET Charge, a business that provides and installs electric car chargers, therefore her knowledge in energy technology, particularly electric vehicle charging, is extensive.
Ms. Monique highlighted the importance of Energy Safe Victoria in protecting Victorians' safety as the state transitions to renewable energy sources and spoke with pleasure about her involvement with the organisation.
The exceptional public and private sector board experience Ms. Monique has in creating technology for the energy transition has been praised by Lily D'Ambrosio, the Victorian Minister for Energy and Resources. As the state seeks to meet its ambitious net-zero emissions goal by 2045, she emphasised the need of Energy Safe Victoria in ensuring the safety of energy networks.
Victoria has demonstrated a strong commitment to renewable energy and regulatory excellence with the selection of Monique. Energy Safe Victoria is well-positioned to play a significant role in influencing the state's sustainable energy environment and securing a safer and cleaner future for all Victorians because to her knowledge and vision.
