EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen Picks 6 Females for Top Roles in her Team

Despite having numerous EU member’s reluctance, Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union chief has put females in many of the top leadership roles in her new team at the bloc’s head, for her next 5-year tenure in the organisation.

In a move towards gender parity, EU Chief has put a total of 6 women amongst her team’s eight top positions. With a mutual agreement, Ursula von as EU Chief and Kaja Kallas as foreign policy have settled on by government leaders.

She added Teresa Ribero, a Spanish Socialist to lead the green transition alongside Ribero as the antitrust czar, while 3 other women has been named as Commission vice presidents. The Commission team appointments is still yet to get confirmed since its deviates to the right followed by June elections that saw a surge of far right parties.

Ursula von der said, “So I worked with the member states and we were able to improve the balance to 40 per cent women and 60 per cent men. And it shows that – as much as we have achieved – there is still so much more work to do. The importance of Italy is reflected in the portfolio and the executive vice president. And I think the balance is also very well kept.”
