The Global Conversation on Board Diversity by 50/50 Women on Boards (50/50WOB) highlighted business leaders dedicated to developing gender balance and diversity on corporate boards in a landmark event on November 14, 2023. EY was named the Premier Global Sponsor, while Global Sponsors Mastercard, Wells Fargo, Equilar, McKesson, and Jamison were acknowledged for their critical contributions to the cause.
According to Kris Pederson, Americas Leader of the EY Center for Board Matters, "women on boards can positively impact profitability and productivity of organizations by bringing their diverse skills and experiences to organizational governance."
The event was the culmination of a series of 20 strategic networking meetings held in six countries, bringing together over 400 corporate executives and board directors. The yearly broadcast taught nearly 4,000 women leaders and provided them with tools to pursue board seats, thanks to more than 200 sponsors and in-kind contributions.
Heather Spilsbury, CEO of 50/50WOB, thanked sponsors and funders, emphasizing their critical role in the objective to have 50% of corporate board seats held by women and at least 20% held by women of colour. The group actively creates strategic networking opportunities for women by linking them with powerful business directors in order to advance their careers.
The event also featured conversations with executives from significant firms and honoured the finalists of the "50 Women to Watch for Boards," a group of extraordinarily talented women eager to contribute to the boards of public corporations. The Global Conversation on Board Diversity continues to raise awareness and demand for diverse and gender-balanced boards, impacting the future of corporate governance.
