Frito-Lay, a well-known worldwide snacking powerhouse, has committed a large commitment of $400,000 to the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) as an important step towards fostering gender equality in sports. In order to provide access and possibilities for girls and women in sports, Billie Jean King, a tennis icon, formed the WSF in the US in 1974.
The WSF's 'We Play Interactive' training resource, a cutting-edge digital platform designed to professionally develop and teach coaches and programme leaders, will be supported in particular by the kind contribution from Frito-Lay. The grant will give this free resource a considerable boost and expand its audience to over 1,000 coaches and programme directors. As a result, this will aid in developing the skills of more than 50,000 aspiring athletes, including programmes for 8,000 young females who play football.
WSF CEO Danette Leighton expressed her appreciation for Frito-Lay's assistance, adding that it is essential to address the issue of girls and young women in sports having greater dropout rates than their male counterparts. The WSF thinks they can encourage more girls and women to experience sports' transforming impact by fostering equitable access and opportunity.
According to Danette Leighton's considerable study, girls and young women leave sports at greater rates than their male counterparts. Organisations, businesses, and brands must join us in enhancing access and opportunity if we are to keep them in the game. We are appreciative of Frito-Lay's support in helping us broaden our influence and encourage more girls and women to discover the transforming potential of sports.
The Women's Sports Foundation has contributed more than $100 million over the years to several programmes that aim to influence the lives of millions of young people, collegiate and high school student-athletes, elite athletes, and coaches. The donation made by Frito-Lay is consistent with their dedication to social responsibility and to strengthening local communities via sports.
The Women's Sports Foundation and Frito-Lay's strategic alliance is anticipated to have a beneficial domino effect, encouraging girls and women throughout the nation to participate in sports and follow their athletic ambitions. By making a financial commitment to the 'We Play Interactive' training tool, Frito-Lay confirms its commitment to advancing gender equality and supporting the professional development of female athletes, coaches, and leaders.
As this partnership establishes an encouraging precedent, it could encourage more businesses, companies, and brands to band together in support of programmes that empower girls and women in sports, furthering the cause of gender equality in the athletics industry.
