Nevada’s city, Henderson has achieved a special feat for women’s empowerment. In its 181-year history, the Henderson Police Department has achieved a noteworthy milestone by appointing Pamela Randolph as its second ever female detective. Pamela's appointment as a detective is the sign of the noteworthy progress made by the field of law enforcement and women’s participation in the same.
All through the mid-19th century, women in law enforcement were mainly given the responsibility of looking after female inmates. However, they did not have the authority to make arrests. With the 20th century coming in, women made significant strides in the field of law enforcement. It was in the 1950s, when the law enforcement department started to give women the authority investigative and undercover authority. These were roles similar to their male counterparts. It was in 1970s when a strong breakthrough was made and women began being employed as police officers.
Pamela's appointment as a detective is an important step in the right direction for the Henderson Police Department. It also signifies the quest for equality in the field of law enforcement. In spite of the progress made by women so far, female officers continue to be a minority.
