As part of the Women's Future Tour Programme (FTP) for 2025–2029, which intends to promote women's cricket by adding another significant international event to the calendar, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Women's Champions Trophy, a new global event that Sri Lanka will host in June–July 2027. Six teams will compete in the tournament's round-robin format before moving on to the knockout stages.

The T20 World Cup in September 2028 and the Los Angeles Olympics in August 2028 are two of the three major women's worldwide competitions that will include the Women's Champions Trophy in 2027. There will be five international women's cricket competitions over the next five years, including two ODI World Cups in 2025 and 2029 and two T20 World Cups in 2026 and 2028. Next year, India will host the Women's ODI World Cup. The Women's Champions Trophy will encourage gender equality in sports and provide chances for competition.

There will be 15 Women's Tests from 2025 to 2029. In 2026, India will play three Test matches against South Africa, England, and Australia. Meanwhile, the West Indies will play Test cricket again after 2004 and will play South Africa, England, and Australia back-to-back. In 2026, the Women's Premier League (WPL) will be held from January to February, while Zimbabwe will participate in the Women's ODI Championship. According to the new FTP, India and Pakistan will still compete against one another in other ICC events.
