Professor Kassa Woldesenbet Beta, an advocate for inclusive entrepreneurship at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), is leading initiatives to help women in Ethiopia and Zambia become businesses. Professor Kassa's origins in a rural area of Ethiopia has spurred his desire to close the economic gap, particularly in East Africa.
At a conference this week, Professor Kassa presented his study on inclusive entrepreneurship, emphasizing the ongoing gender gaps that limit women's access to entrepreneurial possibilities. Despite socioeconomic development, cultural norms and economic constraints continue to limit women's capacity to own land or property and seek business opportunities.
Professor Kassa hopes to overcome impediments to women's empowerment by drawing on his experiences and scholarly ability. His study emphasizes the importance of tailoring solutions to the particular obstacles that African women entrepreneurs confront.
Professor Kassa strives to empower women entrepreneurs by providing resources and support networks through programs such as aiding small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in Leicester, as well as forthcoming efforts in Ethiopia and Zambia. His comprehensive approach incorporates indigenous African perspectives, questioning Western-centric viewpoints and calling for a better knowledge of African history, culture, and socioeconomic issues.
Professor Kassa is committed to promoting inclusive entrepreneurship because he believes that empowering underprivileged communities would result in a more equitable society. As he prepares to interact with communities in Ethiopia and Zambia, Professor Kassa underlines the need of co-creating solutions that are informed by the lived experiences of African women entrepreneurs.
Professor Kassa hopes that by supporting diversity and questioning traditional knowledge, she will pave the road for a brighter, more fair future for African women entrepreneurs.
