Ruchira Kamboj, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, expressed concern about the current state of affairs in Afghanistan and said that the nation's top priorities right now are battling terrorism, establishing an inclusive government, and protecting the rights of minorities, women, and children.

Ms. Ruchira said that creating an inclusive and representative government is a crucial step toward providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people. Our common and urgent issues include the war on terror and drug trafficking, as well as the defense of the rights of minorities, women, and children.

She further said that the Indian government has been strongly supporting an inclusive government in Kabul to guarantee that no act of terrorism should be started or continued against another nation. Furthermore, since taking on control of Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban government has made prior promises to allow women to work and pursue higher education; however, these commitments have not yet been met. Women are not allowed in most public areas, a restriction that has drawn criticism from nearly every part of the globe.

Ms. Ruchira claims that the natural disasters have made the humanitarian situation worse, having a significant impact on people's lives. She underlined that humanitarian needs should be given priority and that the international community should pay special attention to the state of Afghan lives. Between October 7 and October 15, multiple earthquakes measuring 6.0 or higher struck western Afghanistan, killing over 2,000 people.

She mentioned that India has frequently given Afghanistan visible help for humanitarian reasons and would do so again in the future as long as it is necessary for the welfare of the Afghan people. Afghan students can also apply for scholarships offered by the Indian government. In addition, more than 500 projects about people's welfare have been started, including those concerning water and electricity supply, roads, agriculture, healthcare, and electricity.
