International Women Leaders Discuss Gender Equality at UN's CSW Ministerial Roundtable

  • The topic of discussion of the roundtable was strategies for achieving gender equality and women and girl’s empowerment

 

During the 69th session, the Commission on the Status of Women organised a ministerial roundtable on March 12, 2025. Representatives from various nations came on the forefront and shared insights during the session, regarding their strategies for achieving gender equality and women and girls empowerment.

The aim of the discussion is to recommit a landmark agreement, the Beijing Platform for Action that established in 1995, focusing on enhancing women’s rights while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The roundtable witnessed the participation of numerous female leaders that includes:

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariana Betsa- She underscored the unwavering commitment of her country during the discussion, towards Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. She also made a mention of the robust national strategies and policies’ implementation that aims at empowering women and girls, even in the face of adversity.

Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Doreen Bogdan-Martin- She served as the moderator of the panel, stating the Beijing Declaration significance as a comprehensive global agenda for gender equality.

Minister for Women of the Dominican Republic Mayra Jiménez- She highlighted the successful strategies of her country’s government for financing women’s empowerment. She also emphasised the prevention and protection’s importance against gender-based violence, underscoring the commitment towards fostering a safer environment for females.

Lastly, Minister for European Affairs at Montenegro Maida Gorčevic concluded the roundtable session by mentioning about the efforts her country is putting for increasing the representation of women in government as well as decision-making roles.
