A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between HKSTP and JYCGIF on 18th May, to encourage female secondary school students to pursue careers in I&T, advance gender diversity, and elevate women in Hong Kong as leaders.
The new partnership between JYCGIF and HKSTP makes it abundantly evident that there are no hurdles for enthusiastic and motivated girls and women in the I&T ecosystem in Hong Kong and elsewhere: There is no glass ceiling for capable, creative, and empowered women who want to thrive and lead in the future.
In order to build a pipeline of female talent interested in holding key positions in the I&T ecosystem, JYCGIF, and HKSTP have signed an MoU on joint endeavours to establish programs that encourage teen girls to pursue STEM fields both academically and professionally. The JYCGIF-HKSTP alliance will also involve a forthcoming "Ideathon" that will engage and active young women in I&T by presenting them with a challenge to come up with technologically advanced answers to social problems.
By encouraging more females to pursue STEM fields of study and fostering future leaders, the new alliance opens up chances in I&T to unleash the full potential of the next generation. At the MoU Signing Ceremony, Mrs. Jennifer Yu Cheng, the founder of JYCGIF and Group President and Deputy Vice Chairwoman of CTF Education Group (CTFEG), stated, "We hope to re-examine what the future can and should look like a world in which no dream is too big, and no dreamer too small!" "We want to intensify our tight cooperation. Through a series of carefully chosen seminars, workshops, trips to I&T firms, and Ideathon contests, we will work together to provide teen females greater chances and exposure to STEM and I&T for girls.
The Chairman of HKSTP, Dr. Sunny Chai, backed Jennifer’s opinion. Inspiring female secondary students via more exposure to the I&T environment at HKSTP and elsewhere is one of the goals of this synergistic cooperation, he added. The goals of both organizations are to assist female students in choosing their future professional options.
Flourishing I&T Climate
Co-founder and CEO of Archireef, Ms. Vriko Yu, spoke about how she developed into an I&T entrepreneur. Despite prejudice and preconceptions, she persevered and the company expanded thanks to her love of marine life. The Middle East has become a new market for Archireef, and the majority of its employees are female. Girls should be willing to investigate career options in the IT industry.
Delivering Positive Impact
The JYCGIF's programming is designed to encourage girls to reach their greatest potential and prepare for the future. To equip and encourage young girls to become future-ready, JYCGIF presented its flagship "10,000 Girls4Girls Coding+" Summer Programme last summer. The curriculum gave females the basic skills they needed to become digitally literate while also empowering them with leadership abilities, symbolized by the plus sign (+).
In March 2023, JYCGIF introduced the "JYCGIF CareerXplorer Programme" to encourage females to chart their future educational and professional aspirations. Teenage females from 12 schools participated in the "New Industrialization Experiential Day" at Data Technology Hub (DT Hub), where they were immersed in future workspaces. The workshops, according to Ms. Chan Oi Yiu of Hong Kong True Light College, motivated her to consider the relationship between empathy and design thinking. After taking part in JYCGIF courses, the vice principal of Hong Kong True Light College noticed an upsurge in the student's interest in STEM fields.
