At a Women's History Month event, US First Lady Jill Biden urged males to speak out and fight for women's rights. Jill Biden voiced concern about the predicament that women are in, saying that they are "battles that we believed we had won a long time ago." Prior to her husband Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris, she was speaking.
We need more men to hold one other accountable when women are hurt or left behind, Jill Biden noted. The fight for women's equality should come to an end, the first lady remarked.
This follows the US Supreme Court's decision in June that states may impose restrictions on abortion, which prompted legislation to be passed in several Republican-controlled states throughout the US that shortens the window of time during which women can have an abortion. Many states have also made it more difficult for women to have abortions.
In his remarks, Joe Biden said that improving women's economic status is a top goal for his administration and that women's economic security is closely linked to all of the pressing issues confronting the Nation, from public safety to public health. Joe Biden said, "We must recommit to the mission ahead" to ensure a better future for our nation's daughters.
