Maria Martinez has been appointed as the new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of J.Jill, Inc., a major addition to the top omnichannel retailer and lifestyle brand. Martinez assumes a major role directing the company's human resources strategy and operation, effective immediately.
Martinez's responsibilities as CHRO include personnel acquisition and retention, corporate and retail business relationships, cultural development, diversity, equality, and inclusion programs, corporate communications, and overall rewards.
J.Jill President and CEO Claire Spofford expressed excitement at Martinez's hiring, citing her two decades of experience in developing effective HR strategies. Additionally, Spofford said, "Maria will be instrumental in our business-focused people strategy, building upon our culture of creativity, inclusivity, and customer obsession."
Martinez provides extensive expertise, having previously overseen HR departments in a variety of sectors. Her most recent position was as a personnel strategist at Axogen, Inc., where she enhanced talent strategies to fit the company's rapid expansion and cultural transformation. She was formerly the CHRO at HSNi, where she oversaw different HR aspects of the direct-to-consumer retail business.
Martinez expressed her delight at joining J.Jill and emphasized the company's commitment to supporting women's diversity and inclusion. She expressed excitement about assisting bright individuals across multiple operational areas as the organization builds on its history.
Martinez also has a significant record in community service, having served on the Board of Directors of Good360, a nonprofit organization, and been named a Tampa Bay Business Journal Women of the Year 2022 honoree.
