June Chepkemei named as KenInvest's acting managing director by Trade CS Kuria

Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Investment, has nominated June Chepkemei to serve as the Kenya Investment Authority's acting managing director (KenInvest).

According to a press release dated January 31, 2023, Chepkemei's new position at the government institution will involve leading initiatives to draw in and expand investments.

According to the statement, "KenInvest encourages and supports foreign and domestic investments in Kenya by pushing for a conducive investment climate, creating bankable opportunities to invest, and providing aftercare services to investors.

The parastatal "leverages Kenya's strategic location as a regional financial, communication, and major port, sociopolitical and quantitative, highly skilled people resource, and a robust capital market" to promote the nation as an investment hub.

Chepkemei was the Director of Marketing and Publicity at the Konza Technopolis Development Corporation before being hired by KenInvest (KOTDA).

She worked as the Communications Business Partner at Safaricom Limited prior to joining KOTDA.

Following her appointment by the Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Innovation, and Youth Affairs in 2021, she also participated in the Taskforce on the Kenya Media Policy Guidelines.

One of the Top 25 Women in Digital for 2021 is Chepkemei.

She is renowned for having been the driving force behind the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative, which unites numerous industry stakeholders to support the commercialization of research, innovation, and the development of new products and businesses within Konza Technopolis.

The International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation ranked the idea as the third-most inspiring option (IASP). The effort has so far seen the launch of more than 100 businesses, according to the statement.

The Kenya Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which is being built by the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, selected Chepkemei as its project coordinator in 2017. (MoE).

Chepkemei led Kenya's delegation in a successful 2022 application to host the 41st annual conference of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), which is scheduled for 2024.

Additionally, she was a member of the group in charge of implementing Technology and Innovation Jamhuri in 2022.

She has a Master's in Communications Studies from Moi University, a Bachelor's in Public Relations and Communications from Moi University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Marketing from The Chartered Institute of Marketing of the UK.

She also holds an executive credential in innovation from Stanford Center for Professional Development and is a Chartered Marketer by the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK.
